Diabetic Foot / Therapeutic Shoe Fitter

Starting with epidemiology and costs, this course progresses to foot anatomy with emphasis on structures involved in orthotic management of the diabetic foot. Pathophysiology is then presented showing the mechanisms that put the diabetic foot at risk. Foot examination and foot management paradigms are then presented to equip the fitter with the knowledge to know what intervention is appropriate depending on patient presentation. Fitting therapeutic shoes is then presented along with techniques for checking for fit and function. This is followed by a discussion on loss prevention and the medical-legal issues involved in fitting at risk feet. 2010 Therapeutic Shoe - Who Should Attend

The Applied Technology Institute (ATi) Therapeutic Shoe program is designed as an entry-level program for any non-certified individual to accomplish two goals: first to gain the knowledge required to fit therapeutic shoes, and secondly to qualify to take the therapeutic shoe certification exam. Students have attended with no fitting experience at all, and others have come to ATi with over 20 years of fitting experience. Anyone in the business of fitting therapeutic shoes will find this course useful and interesting.

Individuals who are already certified have also benefited from the ATi course by reviewing the basics of fitting therapeutic shoes, and earning continuing education credits in the process.
